Visiting Southern Alabama

A spring visit to the Southern Alabama can mean all sorts of outdoor fun in some of the most beautiful weather the region sees all year. Special events, festivals, and virtually endless family-friendly fun – communities from Montgomery and Troy to Demopolis and Enterprise promise plenty of things to see and do before summer heat steams in.

Monroeville visitors will find a sense of Southern hospitality while savoring the sweet and savory flavors of some of the best barbecue in town, April 23rd. The 2016 Hippy's Big Butt BBQ Bash is a cook-off held at Whitely Lee Park, with an afternoon full of festivities and games for the whole family. Come hungry – things get cookin’ around noon.

That same weekend, downtown Troy dazzles residents and visitors with the 2016 TroyFest Art & Craft Festival. It’s two days of family-friendly fun, April 23rd and 24th, with a variety of art, entertainment, music, and more to enjoy. Individual event times vary, but the festival goes from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Car guys and gals congregate at the USA Town Center in Opelika on May 22nd for the East Alabama Old Car Club’s 42nd Annual Old Car Show. It’s a chance to see a wide variety of rare and classic cars and trucks – best of all, it’s free.

Southern Alabama’s lush landscape is at its most colorful in the spring and summer, and a scenic driving tour is the best way to see it all. From the wooded wonderland of Talledega National Forest, near Clanton, to the rich history of Auburn University, near Opelika in Auburn, all sorts of uniquely Alabama attractions await road trippers.

After so much summer fun, you're sure to have worked up quite an appetite. Luckily for, there’s 2016 PorktoberQue 2016 on September 23rd and 24th. It’s an Oktoberfest-style weekend at the Houston County Farm CTR in Dothan, boasting a bevy of Bavarian brats, BBQ, polka, dancing, and more.
