Visiting Southern Alabama
Across southern Alabama the summer temperatures will take a back seat to those cooler, brisk days of fall and winter, and you’ll be treated to a wide range of excellent and must-see things to do. Plan your visit to the Heart of Dixie and head south – cities like Opelika, Andalusia, and Troy are primed to yield full days of exploration and adventure.
A stay in Monroeville will no doubt yield an afternoon touring the very impressive Monroe County Heritage Museum. In Greenville you can test your mettle at the Cambrian Ridge Golf Course – 36 immaculate holes spread across four unique courses. And when your southern Alabama visit has you in Opp, don’t miss your chance to hike through the exceptional Frank Jackson State Park – few destinations across the region will offer such stunning views of the fall foliage.
Be sure to make the most of your holiday visit to southern AL with a stay in Troy. Enjoy the sights, sounds, and tastes at this year’s City of Troy Annual Christmas Parade, held on December 5th through downtown Troy. The event culminates with the Tree Lighting Ceremony at 6 p.m.
From Troy and nearby Greenville, the drive in to Montgomery is short and scenic. Home to some top attractions like the Alabama State Capitol and the Montgomery Riverwalk Stadium, Alabama’s state capital is as inviting as ever this fall and winter.
Visit the Garrett Coliseum and Fairgrounds in Montgomery from October 28th to November 6th for this year’s Alabama National Fair. This year’s slate includes more than 60 unique rides, livestock competitions and sales, and a wide range of commercial booths. Just a bit later in Montgomery, check out the 46th Annual Montgomery Gem, Mineral & Jewelry Show. Held at the Garrett Coliseum, this year’s gem fest will take place from December 2nd to the 4th, is only $2 to enter, and parking is free!
When you explore Opelika this fall and into the early winter, you’ll discover how fanatic the locals are over their Auburn Tigers. Make your way to Jordan-Hare Stadium in nearby Auburn for an impressive slew of games. Marquee match ups for the Auburn Tigers include the LSU Tigers on September 24th, Arkansas Razorbacks on October 22nd, and a fierce in state rivalry match up against the Alabama Crimson Tide on November 26th.
