Covering 740 acres, Barber Motorsports Park is located in eastern Birmingham in Alabama's central region. Since 2003, the multi-purpose racing site has featured a 15-turn, 2.38-mile asphalt track home to numerous Grand-Am, AMA Superbike, and Vintage Racing Series events.
Specific events hosted at the park include the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series and AMA Superbike Championship – and more recently the IndyCar Series. The park also features the Barber Vintage Motorsport Museum, the Kevin Schwantz Motorcycle School, and the North American Porsche Driving School.
Birmingham Botanical Gardens
Drawing over 350,000 annual visitors, the BBG houses over 12,000 plant species throughout 25 different gardens – like the Ireland Iris Garden, Fern Glade, and the Southern Living Garden.

Established in 1841, Samford University is set in central Alabama outside of Birmingham in the city of Homewood. Home to over 4,000 students, Samford is a private, coeducational university covering 180 acres.
Formerly Howard College, Samford University is also home to the Samford Bulldogs athletics department, featuring 13 varsity teams. Samford suburban campus also features the Harwell Goodwin Davis Library, A. Hamilton Reid Chapel, and the Leslie S. Wright Center for the Fine Arts.
From the Nationwide Series, to the top dogs of the Sprint Cup Series, the Talladega Superspeedway plays host to some of Alabama's biggest NASCAR events.
Specific big-name races held in late summer and into the fall include the Aaron's 499, and the Good Sam Roadside Assistance 500 – both Sprint Cup races – with the Aaron's 312 held in early April.
The track was opened in 1969, and has been a staple in the NASCAR community ever since.
Set in Tuscaloosa County, Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park is located in McCalla in central Alabama – just south of Bessemer outside of Birmingham. Found on the National Register of Historic Places, the ironworks were completed in 1862, and were once the iron source for Confederate Civil War soldiers.
Now the 2,063-acre Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park is home to the Iron & Steel Museum of Alabama – plus the John Wesley Hall Grist Mill and the May Plantation Cotton Gin House. Located off Interstate 59, the park is open daily from dawn till dusk.
Established in 1997, the Summit is an entertainment district set in central Alabama in Birmingham. Found at the juncture of U.S. Highway 280 and Interstate 459, the Summit encompasses one million square feet, and features shops, nightlife, and restaurants, like California Pizza Kitchen, Cheesecake Factory, and more.
Developed by Bayer Properties, the Summit Birmingham offers anchor stores like Belk and Saks Fifth Avenue, plus Barnes & Noble Booksellers, Toys "R" Us, and Carmike Cinemas. The Summit also features special events like photos with Santa, charity book drives, and of course, sales.
Premiered at the 1904 World's Fair, the statue is now the centerpiece of the Vulcan Park and Museum at Red Mountain.
Covering 10 acres, the Vulcan Park & Museum features a large interactive history exhibit, events like the Thunder on the Mountain 4th of July Fireworks Extravaganza, and Vulcan's Gift Shop.
Listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places, the Vulcan statue is also the country’s seventh tallest freestanding statue.
