Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church

The Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church, in Montgomery, is the church where civil rights activist Martin Luther King, Jr. became a full-time pastor in 1954. He began his pastoral career here at the age of 25 and lead the congregation in service for six years. This Alabama National Historical Landmark was the place he started his active role in the Civil Rights Movement. King, Jr. kept his congregation informed of political and social issues, through his services.
Through words of encouragement by King, Jr., the congregation became more active in the current civic issues. To learn more about the church, enjoy a guided church tour and a tour of the Parsonage Museum, where King Jr. lived.
